This image of Nassau Hall at Princeton University was originally made as a wet plate collodion tintype during the COVID-19 pandemic, when the university and surrounding campus fell unusually quiet. There is not a single person in the original plate.

For a place as historic and heavily traveled as Princeton, that absence is what makes this photograph unusual. Nassau Hall remains, but the people who normally surround it are gone—leaving the building almost entirely alone.

The original tintype was made by hand using the 19th-century wet plate collodion process. This image is reproduced as a fine art giclée print, preserving the character, tonal range, and atmosphere of the original tintype.
