For one afternoon only, step back into the Old West and have your portrait made using the historic wet-plate collodion process.

Come dressed for the theme — cowboy hats, denim, vests, boots, bandanas, prairie dresses, waistcoats, or anything that feels like it belongs in the 19th-century American West.

I’ll also choose my favorite portrait from the afternoon as the Plate of the Day to feature online.

What: 8x10 Tintype Portraits using an 1800's Photography Process. (Sessions include a $`10 donation to the Craft Coven Convention)

Where: We will be having sessions at the Works on Paper building located inside the Fleisher parking lot across the street from Fleisher Art Memorial at 719 Catherine street. The building has a large sculpture of two arms above the door-it’s hard to miss! There is also an entrance to the lot on Christian Street. Guests can purchase only a tintype session without attending the convention since it is in a separate building. If you’d like to take part in the all day make and takes, artist talks, spooky movie marathon, local vendor marketplace, artist demonstrations, and additional ticketed workshops like chain mail and broom making-you’ll have to get a ticket to the 12-5pm Convention as well.

The Craft Coven Convention is Philadelphia’s first all day educational makerspace for crafters and newbies alike. Taking place at Fleisher Art Memorial: a 127 year old non profit community arts school, we will also have Ticketed Workshops throughout the classrooms, Artist Demonstrations, and Experiences like tarot reading and on-the-spot specialty photography.

Join members of The Craft Coven: Philly's own hoi polloil organization focused on accessible creative events. The Coven provides opportunities for artistic expression, education and play for adults of all kinds, but especially the marginalized, underrepresented, and lovers of all things Witchy and whimsical.
