Two rounded summits above still water, and the most recognised view in Acadia.
This image looks north across Jordan Pond to the Bubbles, the pair of glacial hills that rise at the far end of the lake. The pond is fed by springs and is one of the clearest bodies of water in Maine, and on a calm morning it holds the mountains almost perfectly.
The plate was coated, exposed and developed on location within minutes, in a darkroom built into the back of a truck. The marks along the edges are the pour lines, left exactly as they came off the plate.
Photographed using the 19th-century wet plate collodion process, and reproduced here as a fine art giclée print that holds the tonal range and atmosphere of the original plate.
