Lambertville, NJ, January 2nd, 2021 -- The tintype portrait studio and gallery officially opens the doors - watch the birdie!

Daniel offers the experience of photography from the Guilded Age which takes you back to an authentic portrait studio from 150 years ago.

“Life is about experiences and I am looking forward to offering something truly fun and unique to Lambertville and its many visitors. I am thrilled to be working at such a special location within the heart of an extraordinary city.” says Daniel.

The wet plate tintype studio and gallery is located in Lambertville NJ on Church and Union Street and was also the former home to a wet plate photographer by the name of John C Tibbles from the 1860s to the 1880s.

The space serves as a portrait studio for individuals, couples, kids, families, and seniors portraits. The studio also serves as an alternative photography gallery, where it showcases a variety of archival prints for sale.

Using a process of alchemy - silver, light, and a 1901 Century camera Daniel captures photographs onto glass or metal plates. Once created the plate is essentially an original physical work of art - a copy of the truth that can’t be changed or reproduced, and if taken care of can last hundreds of years. The surreal raw quality can’t be matched by any digital process today. The entire process takes about 30 minutes per image and has several steps. Each plate is always unique and is a product of many variables such as temperature, humidity, light, chemical formulas and techniques to list but a few which makes it challenging to master.

The studio is open Saturdays & Sundays from 10am to 5pm and also by appointment. Walk-ins are also accepted time permitting and is a great opportunity to chat with the artist, visit the new space, take advantage of discounts for portrait bookings and see first hand the beautiful work Daniel creates.

The wet plate tintype studio and gallery is located at 1 Church Street, Lambertville, NJ.
